Answers:

1) There are over 350 different species of sharks.

2) Sharks, sharks have lived in very much the same form as they live today and are older than dinosaurs having lived nearly 400 MILLION years.

3) Whale sharks are as big as whales but are considered sharks and thus fish. Whale sharks eat plankton like whales

4) One of the oddest species of sharks is called the Cookie Cutter shark and at full size it can fit in the palm of your hand.

5) False. Shark bodies are supported by a cartilage skeleton and do not have any bones. Because of
this it is very rare to find a skeleton of a shark outside of it's teeth.

6) True. The novel Jaws was inspired by real shark attacks in New Jersey in 1916. It is officially unknown what type of shark was responsible but it is likely this shark was a bull shark because of the water conditions at some of the attack sites.

7) Bull sharks have been known to swim up rivers and live in lakes.

8) In many Polynesian countries sharks were considered gods at one time or another.

9) Most sharks need to swim to provide oxygen to their bodies to keep them alive. For many swimming is the only way to accomplish this.

10) Millions of sharks are killed for their fins alone. Fins are sold in many Asian countries to be used in
shark fin soup. In most cases the sharks are then released back into the water to drown because they can no longer swim.
